Oakwood Veterinary Hospital was founded by Dr. Bruce Cozzens in 1977. We are proud of the over 30 years of service we have provided the Traverse City area. Our highly trained staff of veterinarians and animal healthcare professionals are dedicated to providing you and your pets with the highest quality veterinary service in the area.

We provide leading edge preventive medicine, routine dentistry, general surgery, and excellent diagnostic capabilities. We have an extensive in-house laboratory for fast and accurate test results. A well-stocked pharmacy gives our doctors a variety of treatment options for our sick patients. An automatic processor allows rapid developing of X-rays while you wait. We do not offer boarding or grooming, preferring to focus on healthcare. We do have relationships with a variety of training and grooming facilities in the area and will be glad to make recommendations or provide referrals.

We provide referral services to local veterinary hospitals for complex orthopedic and soft tissue surgical procedures that a typical general practitioner may not be equipped for or experienced to perform.  Dr. Henshaw has years of experience and extensive post-graduate training in advanced surgical procedures and anesthetic techniques.  We offer these services on a referral-only basis and service all of Northern Michigan.  If Oakwood is not your regular veterinary hospital, ask your veterinarian to provide a referral if your pet is in need of a complex surgical procedure or second opinion.

We are a long-time member of the Grand Traverse Emergency group.  We share after-hours emergencies with 10 area hospitals and a veterinarian is always on-call nights, weekends, and holidays.  To be connected with the emergency service, simply call our regular phone number and you will be given instructions and contact information for the emergency duty veterinarian.
