Dr. Drew Henshaw, DVM
Dr. M. Drew Henshaw, is a 1996 graduate of Iowa State’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He has owned Oakwood Veterinary Hospital since 2007. Dr. Henshaw’s dad is a retired veterinarian and MSU graduate, and it is from his father that Dr. Henshaw got his love of animals and decided to pursue veterinary medicine as a career. While enjoying all aspects of small animal medicine, he has a special interest in surgery, especially orthopedics. While he sees outpatients a few days per week, he has established a much-needed surgical referral center here in northern Michigan. After graduation he moved to St. Louis, Missouri to work at a busy small animal practice. Having a special interest in surgery, he joined the staff at Great Lakes Surgical Center and spent eight years in Grand Rapids practicing at the only veterinary referral surgical center in West Michigan at that time. Dr. Henshaw believes learning is a lifelong process and therefor regularly attends continuing education seminars on a variety of topics from medicine to surgery. His wife is a Traverse City native and they have two wonderful children. Their very active Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Indi, and rescue dog, Ella, keeps everyone busy playing ball, tug of war, or hiking through the woods. Dr. Henshaw enjoys the outdoors, including swimming, boating, kayaking, biking and has a second degree black belt in taekwondo.
