About
Oakwood Veterinary Hospital was founded in 1977. We are proud of the over 40 years of service we have provided the Traverse City area. Our highly trained staff of veterinarians and animal healthcare professionals are dedicated to providing you and your pets with the highest quality veterinary service in the area. Oakwood has recently moved from our original location on Hastings Street to our new location on Aero Park Drive. Oakwood's new 6,400 square feet location was built to provide you and your beloved pets more space, to allow our staff to work more efficiently and better serve you as pet owners.
We provide leading edge preventive medicine, routine dentistry, oral surgery, general surgery and referral orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. Our hospital boasts some of the most advanced in-house laboratory equipment on the market for fast and accurate testing results. We also work closely with a number of reference laboratories around the country for specialized testing. Digital radiograph and ultrasound units allow for better diagnostic images that can be processed and viewed in seconds. We are one of the few veterinary practices in Northern Michigan with this technology. Another benefit of digital diagnostic imaging is the ability to email them to specialists in seconds for rapid second opinions when necessary. We do not offer boarding or grooming, preferring to focus on healthcare. We do have relationships with a variety of training and grooming facilities in the area and will be glad to make recommendations or provide referrals.
Another major portion of our hospital services is providing referral services to local veterinary hospitals for complex orthopedic, soft tissue, or oral surgical procedures as well as chemotherapy that a typical general practitioner may not be equipped for or experienced to perform. All of the doctors at Oakwood Veterinary Hospital have years of experience and extensive post-graduate training in advanced surgical procedures and anesthetic techniques. We offer these services on a referral-only basis and service all of Northern Michigan. If Oakwood is not your regular veterinary hospital, ask your veterinarian to provide a referral if your pet is in need of a complex surgical procedure or second opinion.
We are here to answer any questions about your pet’s health and well-being. We wish to provide you with the information to make informed decisions regarding your pet’s care, so that you become a partner with us in providing services that are tailored to you and your pet’s individual needs.
